Subject: Fall 2027 PhD inquiry — dependable and secure P2P systems
Dear Professor Beschastnikh,
I am preparing a Fall 2027 PhD application to UBC Computer Science. My BSc thesis implemented a working Chord distributed-hash-table overlay and demo application, giving me practical experience with P2P routing and fault tolerance. I later completed an MSc at Chalmers, where my thesis used deep learning to classify VPN and encrypted traffic and studied cross-dataset generalization.
The Dependable Systems Lab’s work on model inference and testing for distributed systems, including security questions around distributed ML, suggests a strong way to connect these two threads. I would like to study ML-driven detection of eclipse, Sybil or routing attacks in DHT overlays, with an emphasis on reproducible failure injection and dependable evaluation.
Would you be open to discussing whether this direction fits your Fall 2027 supervision plans? I can send my CV, transcripts and a one-page concept note.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
